TALK BRIEF

ViraTrace – Contact Tracing 2.0 / From an idea to over a 100M users in less than two months

COVID-19 created uncountable problems, but also made it clear how many people are ready to jump to action and self-organize around a shared goal. While teams across the globe were developing contact tracing solutions, we aimed to help them with data science and modelling resources. This goal quickly grew into a range of business opportunities out of which our startup was formed.

ViraTrace develops (and helps other contact tracing apps incorporate) a multiple-step risk propagation model which goes beyond the usual contact tracing paradigm. Just two months after the idea was formed, our model was deployed in the official Indian app counting over a 100M users.

In a nutshell, contact tracing provides us with an opportunity to utilize our private data for benefit of all, without losing any privacy. Now, we are adapting these same solutions for other industries, making it possible for competitors to share their data in a trustless manner for benefit of all, growing their business based on mutual insights.

In this talk, we will cover the general ideas behind contact tracing and our models, discuss the main challenges regarding healthcare, privacy, politics and culture, and outline our future plans.
